Worship In Uganda

“This is the day which the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it.”  Psalm 118:24

Mama Juliette, Pastor Andrews wife asked us to come to the church early today because she had a surprise for us!

When we arrived she presented us with Gomez dresses, traditional dresses that Ugandan women wear to special occasions such as church.

When we entered the church wearing out Gomez dresses the Ugandan women erupted with applause and their native sound for approval which sort of sounds like a Native American war cry.

Uganda churches are not like America. There is no scheduled time for ending. To say the worship team is high energy would not do it justice, they worship with all that they have.

We sang songs in Luganda and English. It was awesome and I think the Gomez dresses helped us to feel more Ugandan and join in the spirited worship.

It rained really hard today which is a blessing since the country was in a severe drought last year. But the rain prevented us from playing as much with the children since the only place to play is outside.

The children were there waiting for us to teach their Sunday school classes and to play with them!

I presented  a Sunday School lesson to parents. We looked at Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Funny how parenting challenges and fears are so similar no matter what country you live in. We shared our struggles and victories together but most of all we looked at Gods faithful promise to be with us always….even in parenting!

Tomorrow we leave for Pallesi, a majority Muslim city with severe poverty, large number of orphans, and war refugees.

We will then travel to Kibuku to Ebenezer children’s home where most of the children have HIV or have been effected by HIV.

Both of these areas are fairly rual so I may not be able to post for 3-4 days.
